Box Score BROOKLYN - Fairleigh Dickinson could not extend its winning streak to three games as LIU Brooklyn hit three free throws in the final minute to preserve the 65-62 win on Saturday afternoon. Fairleigh Dickinson scored just four points in the final 4:04.
Stylz Sanders, Shanice Vaughan and Brianna Farris all hit a free throw inside the final 60 seconds. Farris led the Blackbirds with 20 points.
Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird) scored 24 on (8-of-18) to lead all scorers.
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) had 18 points - 14 coming in the first half - and nine rebounds.
Jackie Jackson ( Gaithersburg, Md./ Gaithersburg) grabbed 11 rebounds and scored two points.
LIU Brooklyn (6-14, 4-5 NEC) benefitted from Fairleigh Dickinson (7-15, 4-5 NEC) miscues scoring 19 points off of turnovers to the Knights' eight. The Knights could not score in the open floor while the Blackbirds credited seven fast break points.
Madelynn Comly (Littlestown, Pa./Delone Catholic) hit a three-pointer from the left corner at the third quarter buzzer to give the Knights the 51-49 lead heading into the fourth. After the Blackbirds tied it at 51, the Knights took the lead right back with a
Natalie Zamora (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) three-pointer.
The Blackbirds tied the score at 56 off a DeAngelique Waithe layup with 4:55 to play. Cruz answered with a jumper before the Blackbirds took the lead for good on the ensuing possession via a three-point play from Farris to make it 59-58.
Livermore got the Knights within two at 62-60 with 50 seconds to play then LIU came back down and hit two free throws to retake a four-point advantage. Comly hit a layup with a second to play prior to Farris hitting the final free throw.
Fairleigh Dickinson will host Saint Francis U on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center. It will be the second meeting and final scheduled meeting between the two with the Red Flash winning 87-67 back on January 18 in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
