Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, P.A. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at Lehigh University. The Knights (1-6) were swept by Lehigh and then fell to Saint Peter's in tight five-set match.
The matches were part of a two-day tournament played at Lehigh and neighboring Lafayette College.
Sophomore
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) was named to the all-tournament team for her performance over the four matches. She registered 21 kills, 10 digs and 11 total blocks on the weekend. She closed out the event with 10 total blocks on Saturday, including three solo (seven total) in the afternoon match against Saint Peter's.
FDU vs. LehighThe Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team lost to host Lehigh (4-2) in three sets on Saturday. The Knights fall to 0-3 in the Lafayette/Lehigh tournament and 1-5 on the season with the loss.
FDU kept the first set close as the teams traded the lead nine times. A kill by sophomore
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) matched the Knights largest lead, three points, at 14-11. FDU also led the first set at 13-10. Senior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) assisted on two late kills by freshman
Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) to keep the score tight, but Lehigh eked out a 29-27 set victory.
In the second set, one of sophomore
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro)'s seven kills on the day sparked a 6-0 run for the Knights, cutting its deficit to two at 20-18. The Mountain Hawks fought back reeling off the next five points for a 25-18 set win.
In the third and final set, junior
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon)'s kill ended a 6-0 run for the Mountain Hawks, but Lehigh proved to be too much taking the set 25-17.
Laton concluded the game with four kills to match four digs.
Senior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) finished with 17 digs, while Butler and sophomore
Josephine Gallagher (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) tallied 14 and 11 assists, respectively.
FDU vs. Saint Peter'sAfter swapping wins in the first four sets in Saturday's match against Saint Peter's (1-2), the Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team came up just short of completing the comeback, suffering a 3-2 loss.
Saint Peter's won the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the Knights went on a 7-0 run to put the score at 21-15. Despite a late 5-0 surge by the Peacocks to chip away at the Knights eight-point lead (24-16), the Knights maintained control and won the set 25-21 on a kill by Lolland. She ended the match with eight kills.
Entering the third set, FDU lost some of its momentum as the Peacocks went up early 7-1. FDU rallied back on a 6-0 run on a string of service aces by Gallagher tying the game at nine apiece. The Peacocks would answer with a six point swing, 16-10. A pair of Sabol's seven kills would help bring the Knights back, 20-15. However, a set point kill by Saint Peter's Lauren Bethrens would grant them the victory instead.
Down a set, the Knights opened the fourth with a 8-1 lead. Four kills by senior
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) seemed to trouble Saint Peters as the Knights knotted the match at 2-2. Gibbons would finish the match totaling a team-high 14 kills.
In the final set of the match, the score remained close until the Peacocks opened up a six-point lead at 14-8. Lolland and Gibbons recorded kills for the Knights, but it came too late as Saint Peter's eked out a 15-11 set victory.
The loss drops the Knights to 1-6 on the season.
Butler ended the match with 20 assists and eight digs. Gallagher finished with 17 assists and 13 digs, while senior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) finished with a team-high 18 digs.
Wyckoff recorded three solo blocks and assisted on four other blocks to total seven in the match. She also had four kills, four assists, six digs and two service aces against the Peacocks.
The Knights will host the Bobcats of Quinnipiac on September 9 in their first home match of the season. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
