Volleyball Falls Twice at Lafayette

EASTON, P.A. - The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Friday.  The Knights (1-4) fell to Lafayette in three sets and then were edged by Morehead State in five sets.  Both matches were played on Lafayette's campus in Easton, Pennsylvania.
 
The contests were part of a combined tournament being hosted by Lafayette and Lehigh.  The Knights will play Lehigh and Saint Peter's tomorrow.
 
FDU vs. Lafayette
The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell to host Lafayette in three sets in their first match of the Lafayette/Lehigh Tournament on Friday evening in Easton.

The Knights fell in three sets despite six kills apiece form freshman Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), sophomore Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) and junior Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon).

The Leopards (1-1) took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-15.  The Knights (1-3) rallied midway through the third, but it was not enough as they dropped the set, 25-19.

Senior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) contributed 18 assists and seven digs on the match.

Senior Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the Knights with 10 digs while O'Sullivan recorded eight of her own.

Sophomore Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) (6), sophomore Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro) (3) and senior Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) (2) also contributed kills in the match.

The Knights will be back in action later tonight against Morehead State.

FDU vs. Morehead State
The FDU women's volleyball team was edged by Morehead State in a five set match on Friday night.  After dropping the first set, the Knights rallied to win the second and third games, but the Eagles won the fourth and fifth to take the match.

A close match, Morehead won the first set, 25-20, and the Knights won the second and third, 25-20, 25-20.  The Eagles would go on to win the fourth set (25-18) and then the fifth by a score of 15-8.

The Knights had a trio of players record double-digit digs in the match with Lostetter leading the group with 13.  O'Sullivan and Butler also chipped in with 12 and 10, respectively.

Offensively, O'Sullivan led the squad with nine kills on 28 total attacks.  Laton was FDU's most efficient hitter with seven kills on 15 attacks – just three errors – for a .267 hitting percentage.
Laton also totaled three blocks, including a solo.

Sabol (8), Gibbons (7) and Wyckoff (5) also contributed kills for the offense.

As a team, FDU was at its best in the third set with 14 of 25 points coming on kills.  The Knights hit .265 in the set, the team's highest mark of the day.

FDU will continue tournament play with a pair of matches at Lehigh on Saturday, September 5.  FDU will play Lehigh at 10 a.m. and Saint Peter's at 1 p.m.
