Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team began their Northeast Conference slate on the road against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. FDU fell in three sets by the scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-14. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference while the Knights fall to just 6-9 on the year and 0-1 in NEC play.
The Pioneers led throughout the opening set of the afternoon. Sacred Heart saw their lead grow to as much as 15 before taking the set, 25-11.
In the second set, each squad traded points to start. Sacred Heart began to gain an advantage, 9-6 until a pair of errors and a kill by senior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) evened out the score, 9-9. A few sequences later, three consecutive Pioneer kills earned them a three point advantage, 17-14 and an FDU timeout. Out of the break, Sacred Heart retained dominance and eventually won the second set, 25-20.
Sacred Heart scored the first six points of the third set until a kill by sophomore
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro) from Butler put the Knights on the board, 6-1. However, the Pioneers hugged the lead and saw it swell to seven before the Knights forced them into a few errors to bring them within five again, 20-14. The Pioneers went on a 5-0 run to close the set, 25-14 and win the game.
Butler collected 10 assists on the afternoon. Lolland and freshman
Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) each had three kills while senior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) accounted for 11 digs.
The Knights return to home court in another conference matchup, this time against the Bulldogs of Bryant University on Saturday, October 3. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start at Stratis Arena.
