Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. – A 23-point third quarter by Brown erased a three-point Fairleigh Dickinson halftime lead and lifted the Bears to the 63-48 win. Brown (10-1) forced 24 Fairleigh Dickinson (3-8) turnovers and converted those into 22 points.
The Knights held a 25-22 lead heading into the halftime break, however, the Bears scored the first 14 points—over the first 4:37—of the third quarter to take a 38-25 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson missed its first five shots and committed three turnovers during the run.
"Against a team like Brown I was very happy with how we played in the first half and controlled the tempo. We did not come out hitting shots in the third [quarter] and they got whatever we wanted", said
Peter Cinella after the game.
Brown pushed the lead to 11, 47-36, with a Kennedy Martin jumper at the 8:00 mark of the fourth. Rebecca Musgrove and Janie White each had 14 to lead Brown.
Fairleigh Dickinson then scored five straight points to cut it to six. After two free throws by Kennedy,
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) hit two free throws--7-7 on the day—to get it back to a six-point game at 49-43 with 5:07 to play.
That would be as close as the Knights would get as the Bears scored eight straight to extend the lead to 14 at 57-43 with 3:20 to play.
Livermore led the Knights with 13 points (3-of-8) and six rebounds.
Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird) had 10 (5-of-15) and
Jackie Jackson ( Gaithersburg, Md./ Gaithersburg) had eight (4-of-15) and eight rebounds.
Kiana Brown (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) and
Madelynn Comly (Littlestown, Pa./Delone Catholic) had three steals each.
The Knights return to the court on Wednesday night when Siena visits the Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
