Knights Fall to RMU in Final Home Match of the Season

Box Score

HACKENSACK, N.J. - In an attempt to force a deciding fifth set, freshman Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) landed a kill from senior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) to knot the score late in the fourth, 22-22. On the next sequence, the Colonials of Robert Morris upped their defensive pressure causing an attack error on the Knights' behalf. Two consecutive Colonials' kills would just edge the Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team for a 25-22 fourth set victory and steal the game 3-1.

The Colonials claimed the first two sets though it remained competitive between both clubs. Late in the first set, senior Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) landed one of her seven kills out of a Knights timeout to cut their opponent's lead to just three, 23-20. However a kill for RMU's Brianna Schmid and a Knights' attack error on the following play would seal the set and grant the visitors the first set victory.

Late in the second set, Gibbons landed yet another clutch kill from classmate Butler to tie things up at the 18-18 mark.  Sophomore Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) would land back-to-back kills and with a RMU attack error following that, FDU claimed a three point lead. However, two attack errors on the Knights' end forced them to call for time. RMU would go on to win four of the next five points to ultimately take the set and go up 2-0 sets.

In the third, the Knights owned a .417 hitting clip to defeat the Colonials. Sabol landed five kills this set on .417 hitting to help her squad edge the foe. Following two RMU kills, the Knights called for time. Right out of the huddle, Butler collected a kill on an assist from the freshman Mary Bell (Lafayette, Co. /Monarch) to spark a run. FDU won the next three points and eventually would close out the set on an 8-0 run to pick up their first set win on the evening.

Unfortunately the fourth set did not end in the Knight's favor. RMU improves to 4-8 in conference action while FDU falls to 2-9 to complete their 2015 home slate.

Sabol was the high kills leader for the Knights tabbing 16. Lolland ended with 15 kills on .424 hitting for the game. Butler registered 34 assists. Classmate Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led her team with 18 digs while sophomore Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) (17), freshman Savanna Wray (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) (15) and Butler (12) also added.

Follow the Knights on the road as they take on both Brooklyn conference members in LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn to round out their 2015 season next weekend.
