BOX SCOREHACKENSACK, NJ - Redshirt Junior Tyronne O'Garro's alley-oop dunk with 11 seconds remaining gave the Knights a 78-77 victory over Georgian Court in an exhibition game on Thursday, November 5. The Knights were led by a balanced offensive attack that featured six players with double-digit scoring performances.
The Knights opened an early lead, but were unable to put away a resilient Lions team until the final minute of play.
"That was another great exhibition game for us," head coach
Greg Herenda said after the contest. "Every year it seems our captain has to bail us out - last year it was Mustafa (Jones) and this year it was Tyrone."
"We just could not guard them without fouling. Georgian Court did a great job of just pushing the ball and driving it at us. The key out of tonight we played a lot of freshmen and they got their feet wet, but ultimately Tyrone made the free throws and the huge dunk down the stretch."
O'Garro finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. He was an efficient four-of-five shooting and two-of-three at the free throw line in 21 minutes of action.
Sophomore
Earl Potts Jr. (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding ) came off the bench and delivered 17 points, six rebounds and two steals. Potts was six-of-seven shooting, including three-of-four from beyond the arc.
Also reaching double figures for the Knights were sophomores
Stephan Jiggetts (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara) (14),
Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph (Metuchen)) (13) and
Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) (11).
Freshman
Mike Holloway (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick ) picked up a double-double in his first, unofficial, collegiate action. The 6-7 forward pulled down 10 rebounds and dropped in 10 points in 25 minutes of action.
All 13 FDU players saw action in the game and 12 Lions also went on the court.
Herenda added, "The preseason is officially over and now it's on to Philadelphia again."
The Knights will travel to #9 Villanova on Friday, Nov. 13 to official open the 2015-16 Season.
