Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell at home in conference action, Saturday, October 3 to the Bulldogs of Bryant. In the afternoon matinee, the Bulldogs won in three sets with the scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-22. With the win, the Bulldogs go up 11-9 on the season and 3-0 in the NEC while the Knights fall to 6-10 and 0-2 in conference play.
For the first set, the Knights got on the board first. The score remained close however, with neither team being able to create a cushion beyond three points until set point. With Bryant up 24-21, an FDU miscue would give them the set and see them go up 1-0 on the afternoon.
In the second set, the Bulldogs got out to an early 6-2 advantage and never looked back. Though two late kills, one from senior
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) from classmate
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) and one by sophomore
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro) helped their team close in on the deficit, 25-19, Bryant would not let up. The Bulldogs took the second set, 25-20.
Much like in the second, Bryant led throughout the third and final set of the afternoon. The Knights saw themselves down by as much as eight, 15-7 until Bryant committed costly errors cutting the Knights' deficit to only six. Then, a series of kills for junior
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Lolland commanded a 7-3 run to bring the Knights within three, 21-18. Bryant's trio of Kiley Robbins, Vika Nesterov and Alexandra Lunsford each credited a kill to bring the set to game point, 24-19. Despite three consecutive points for FDU, Bryant proved to be too much and took the set, 25-22 and the game.
Freshman
Savanna Wray (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) saw her first start on the season as libero to finish with a team-high 16 digs on the game. Butler credited 26 assists while Lolland and freshman
Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) contributed 11 and 8 kills respectively.
