W. Volleyball Falls Short to LIU Brooklyn

Box Score

HACKENSACK, N.J. – In the second game of three in their home-stand, the Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team was defeated in three sets to by the scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-23 to the Blackbirds of Long Island University. The loss puts their conference record at 2-5 while the Blackbirds go up 5-2 in NEC play.

The third set was the most competitive of the afternoon. The Blackbirds got on the board first but the Knights quickly took custody of the lead. Sophomore Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro) landed two kills to credit that lead while the Knights defense also forced an error for the Blackbirds, 5-2. LIU landed some kills to combat the Knights momentum, grant them the lead once more and force FDU to call for time, 11-8. Out of the break, the Blackbirds corralled a 5-2 run to match their largest lead of the set at six, 16-10. To the help of Lolland's seven kills to go with senior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano)'s 12 assists this set, the Knights crept back in late to see the scored knotted at 20-20. From there, the score stayed tight but it would be two back to back LIU kills that would seal the set and game.

Lolland and freshman Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) finished with 14 and 10 kills respectively. Senior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) recorded 29 assists.

The Knights will return to Stratis Arena to play Saint Francis U on October 25, 2015 at 1 p.m.
