Box Score LORETTO, PA. – The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team fell to Saint Francis U in three sets with scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-20. With the win the Red Flash improve to 6-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play and with the loss the Knights fall to 2-13 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The match started with Saint Francis U jumping out to an early 6-1, with a kill from freshman
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro). FDU would go on a four point run closing the gap to 6-5 with a kill from freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) and three Red Flash attack errors. The Knights would score only four more point in the match which would include a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon).
The second set would start with FDU in the lead, on a kill from senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers). The Knights would take two of the next three points pushing their lead to 4-2 on a kill from Lolland. Saint Francis U would turn the script going on a 7-2 run taking a 9-6 lead that they would not relinquish. FDU would make a push taking three of the next four points scored on two O'Sullivan kills bringing the Knights within one point at 10-9.The Red Flash would go on a 7-1 point run with two FDU errors to extend their lead to 17-10. Freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont)'s two kills lit a spark for FDU closing the gap to five points at 18-13. Saint Francis U would out score the Knights7-3 bringing the score to 21-13. FDU would make on last final push bringing the score to 22-18, but it wouldn't be enough as three Red Flash kills would close the set.
In the final set the Knights would start with a commanding 6-1 lead with a kill from Wycoff and a service ace from junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano). Saint Francis U would tie the set up after going on an 8-3 point run which would include two kills from Lolland. The Knights would regain the lead on a 3-1 point run with a kill from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 12-10. The Red Flash took the next 8 points unanswered giving them an 18-12 lead. The two teams would exchange the next eight points with a kill from Addi and two kills from Wyckoff, bringing the score to 22-16. FDU would outscore Saint Francis U on a 4-3 point run, but it wouldn't be enough as a service error by the Knights would give the Red Flash the match.
Butler would have a team-leading 16 assists to go along with 12 digs to give her her third double-double on the season. On the defense for the Knights senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) would lead the squad with 15 digs, along with junior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), who recorded 10 digs.
FDU will return home to the Stratis Arena in Hackensack N.J. on Saturday Oct. 4 to take on NEC power house LIU Brooklyn at 1 p.m., before hosting St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday Oct. 5, with first serve set at 1 p.m.
