W. Volleyball Heads to 10th Annual Friar Classic

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will be traveling to Providence, R.I. this weekend to compete in the 10th Annual Friar Classic, hosted by Providence. The Knights will take on Quinnipiac, Providence and Morgan State in three matches over Friday Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13.

Last Time Out
FDU will be coming into the weekend with a 1-7 record after falling at Rider on Wednesday night. Sophomore Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) had a career-high 13 kills, followed closely by freshmen Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota), who was one kill away from her second double-double of the season with nine kills and 11 digs. Senior Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and junior Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) both had a double-digit night recording 18 digs each along with junior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano), who recorded a season-high 36 assists.

FDU vs. Providence, 10:30 a.m.
FDU vs. Morgan State 2:30 p.m.
 
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac is coming into the tournament sporting a 1-6 record, with the lone win coming in its first match of the season. Sophomore Katie Urycki leads the offense with 63 kills, while freshman Sierra Dawson paces the squad with 141 assists. On defense for the Bobcats, sophomore Cody Michaels has a team-leading 91 digs, and freshman Elizabeth Kloos is prominent at the net with 25 total blocks.

Scouting the Friars
Providence will be entering the tournament with a 0-8 record on the season. The Friars have three players that have over 50 kills in senior Mackenzie Ziegler, along with sophomores Marina Rose and Kayla Fitzgerald. Sophomore Michelle Cruz leads Providence with 114 digs, and junior Jordan Wiesler has a team-leading 157 assists. 
 
Scouting the Bears
The Bears are 2-5 on the season after competing in the East Carolina Invitational, where they beat Tennessee Tech but lost to UNC Wilmington and East Carolina. Morgan State is led by junior Carmen Fernandez, who is coming into the tournament with 176 assists, which sets up junior Evely Macedo's team-leading 47 kills. Sophomore Minja Rankov leads the squad with 59 digs, and junior Dinah Jones has a total of 10 blocks at the net.

Following the 10th Annual Friar Classic, the Knights will make their home debut in Stratis Arena when they host NJIT on Wednesday, Sept. 17, with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
