Box Score 2 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team finished the first tournament of the season on Saturday, going 0-2 against Weber State (2-2) and South Dakota State (3-1) at the Hawks Holiday Hulabaloo on the campus of UMES.
The Knights (0-4) would start the day off by taking on Weber State in the opening match. FDU would end up losing the match in four games with scores of 15-25, 15-25, 25-20, 11-25.
Sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) was a huge bright spot for the Knights in the match, where she would record 10 kills. Junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano), who was named to the seven-member All-Tournament team, would have a total of 26 assist to set up the kills for the offense. On defense, it was senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) with 11 digs that helped FDU win its first game of the season at 25-20.
The second match of the day for the Knights would consist of three hard battle,s with FDU falling just short to South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits would take all three games by scores of 26-24, 25-13, 25-23.
Butler would be the star of this match for the Knights recording a total of 31 assists. That number would be a season high and bring her total for the 2014 season to 87 after only the first tournament. Defense was the bright spot for FDU during this match. Hong, junior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) would all record double-digit digs, with 11, 10, and 15 respectively. O'Sullivan would also only be one kill away from a double-double after recording a team-high nine kills.
The Knights return to action next weekend (Sept. 5-6) at the Rose Hill Classic, hosted by Fordham University. On Friday ,FDU will match up against the host Rams at 1 p.m. and Northeastern at 4:30 p.m. The Knights will finish the invite against Rider at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
