Twitter Updates on @FDUKnightsHACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team (8-13) will host Saint Peter's for a nonconference doubleheader at the FDU Softball Field on Wednesday, with game one's first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
Last Time OutThe Knights were rained out this past weekend in Western Pennsylvania in their matchups with conference foes Robert Morris and Saint Francis University. FDU last played April 2 when it opened NEC play against Bryant, defeating the Bulldogs in game one, 7-2, before falling in game two, 12-1. Junior
Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) continues her dominance and bounce-back season for FDU after she tossed her sixth complete game of the season in eight chances. Only yielding two earned runs while striking out nine and walking only one, Reiner moved to 6-3 on the season and lowered her ERA to 2.22. Classmate
Cindy Zamudio (Wilmington, Calif./Redondo Union) took a few bites out of the Bulldogs by going 4-for-6 in the twinbill, including a long home run down the left-field line in game one to defeat Bryant. Zamudio raised her average to .318 on the year and continues to lead the team in home runs (3) and slugging percentage (.636). Junior
Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School) is still the team leader in batting average (.356), hits (21), doubles (7), RBI (11) and on base percentage (.415).
Saint Peter's2014: 4-22
Where: Hackensack, N.J. (FDU Softball Field)
When: Wednesday, April 9 - 3/5 p.m.
Series History: FDU leads 9-3 (since 2006)
Last Meeting: April 10, 2013 - FDU 10 Saint Peter's 2; FDU 9 Saint Peter's 7 (DH)
What You Need To Know: The Knights have not lost to the Peacocks since 2006, going a perfect 9-0. FDU will go up against a Saint Peter's team that has struggled of late. Currently on an eight-game losing streak, the MAAC conference member has not been able to win consecutive games all season. FDU will look to take advantage of the Peacocks' pitching, which has a team ERA of 9.28; no pitcher on the staff has an ERA under 7.90. Offensively, Lee Harrison is 11-for-12 in stealing bases this season to go along with leading the team in batting (.333), on-base (.440), slugging (.508) and home runs (3). Other notable standouts to lookout for is Nicole Olmedo, who leads the team in hits with 22; freshman Samantha Storms has enjoyed her rookie campaign, leading the team in RBI with 12; and Francesca D'Amato finds the gap for the Peacocks, leading the team in doubles with seven.
Up NextThe Knights will host a pair of Northeast Conference doubleheaders this weekend at the FDU Softball Field. FDU will go up against preseason favorite CCSU on Saturday, April 12 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. The team will then have a quick turnaround to host Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m.
