Updates on @FDUKnightsHACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team (14-18, 4-4 NEC) enters this weekend in a fourth-place tie in the Northeast Conference standings with the opportunity to inch itself closer to a spot in the conference tournament. On Saturday, the Knights will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on LIU Brooklyn (16-29, 4-4 NEC), who stands even keel with FDU in the standings. Game one is slated to begin at 1 pm. The team will then have a quick turnaround to host Wagner (17-21, 4-6 NEC) on Sunday, with the first game scheduled to start at 12 p.m. Sunday is also the home finale and senior day for the Knights, as seniors

Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School) went 4-for-5 in the doubleheader with a home run and a double to give her a team-best 29 hits on the season. Junior
Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) took the loss in game one, falling victim to the long ball, as she allowed three earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. Reiner kept the Knights in the game, and it was the first time Reiner gave up more than two runs since March 12 when she allowed three runs to UC Riverside. The Los Angeles native reached the 100 inning mark on the season to go along with reaching 120 strikeouts on the year with 10 games remaining.

The Blackbirds' offense is stabilized by Lauren Morizi and Whitney West. Morizi leads the team in average with a .326 mark, 13 doubles and 14 RBI, while West leads the team in hits with 46 while hitting .311. Shelley Proctor (159.2 innings) and Cassie Vondrak (105.0 innings) have eaten up a majority of the innings for LIU this season. The duo has a combined 3.80 ERA and 10 complete games.

What You Need To Know: Leading the flock of the Seahawks is junior shortstop Kelsey Parker with a .442 batting average, 50 hits, nine doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI. This past week, Parker was named NEC Player of the Week after going 7-for-12 over a four-game stretch with a slugging percentage of .583 to receive the accolade for the third time this season. The Seahawks are hitting .307 as a team and hope to keep their playoff hopes alive around Parker, Brenda Bott (.358, 5 HR, 29 RBI) and Abigail Beasley (.324, 35 H, 8 HR, 24 RBI), who have led the offense thus far. In the circle, the Knights have to look out for McKaleigh Goodale, who has a 2.66 ERA to this point and 10 complete games in 108.1 innings.
