Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Behind another outstanding pitching performance from junior
Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall), the Fairleigh Dickinson softball team finally found itself on the winning side of a 1-0 victory, after defeating Army at the Army Softball Complex. With the victory, the Knights improve to 12-16 on the season, while the Black Knights fall to 17-21 overall.
Reiner (8-6) went the distance for the 10th time in 13 starts this season. She allowed just three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven en route to collecting her second shutout of the year. Reiner has now fanned 102 in 84.2 innings in the circle.
Caroline Smith, who threw a complete game as well, allowed one earned run on seven hits, walked two and struck out one.
FDU, who had runners in scoring position in both the first and fourth innings, would score the only run it would need in the top of the fifth on sophomore
Madelaine Wilen (Bakerfield, Calif./Ridgeview High School)'s two-out RBI double, which scored redshirt senior
Liz Woidt (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton), who singled to lead off the frame.
Army never threatened in the contest, as Reiner retired the first 10 batters she faced. The Black Knights never had a runner advance past first base.
Woidt and junior
Cindy Zamudio (Wilmington, Calif./Redondo Union) each had two hits to lead the Knights, with Woidt scoring the only run of the game.
FDU will return to action Saturday, April 19 when it travels to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart in a Northeast Conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one is slated for 12 p.m.
