Softball Drops Final Game at Mustang Classic to Stony Brook

Box Score

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team dropped its final contest of the Mustang Classic, hosted by Cal Poly, to Stony Brook, 6-0, on Sunday at Bob Janssen Field. With the victory, the Seawolves improve to 5-10 on the season, while the Knights fall to 5-5 overall.

Jane Sallen earned the win for the Stony Brook in the complete-game-shutout performance.  She limited FDU to only two hits while striking out two.
Senior Samantha Lemm (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional High School) (0-1) was charged with the loss, only lasting three plus innings, as she allowed three runs, one earned on four hits to go along with one strikeout

The Seawolves opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third on Olivia Mintun's RBI single. Stony Brook then broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with five runs to extend its lead to 6-0. The Seawolves took advantage of three errors in the frame, which resulted in all five runs being unearned.

Freshman Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) gave up three unearned runs in her 1.0 inning of relief. Sophomore Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical High School) turned in an impressive relief appearance, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings while allowing no runs and two hits.

Junior Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School) recorded the only two hits for the Knights, recording a single and triple to continue her hot start to the season.

"We didn't get out of the blocks well today," Head Coach Candi Letts said. "Sam Lemm started and pitched well, but we did not get anything going. We definitely improved during the three days of this tournament. We are building each day we get on the field."

FDU will travel to Riverside, Calif. in the coming days to take on UC Riverside in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 12, with game one's first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
