Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut in three sets with scores of 25-14, 27-25 and 25-19. With the win the Blue Devils improve to 10-15 overall and 6-7 in the NEC keeping them in the hunt for the conference tournament. With the loss the Knights fall to 6-22 overall and 4-9 in the NEC and fall out of the running for the tournament.
The match starts with CCSU taking a dominating 12-2 lead that would include a kill from senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers), and freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont). FDU goes on a 6-5 run with a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota), and Wyckoff to bring the score to 17-8. The Blue Devils outscores the Knights 5-2 to extend their lead to 22-10 with a kill from O'Sullivan. FDU outscores CCSU 5-3 but it wouldn't be enough as a Knight error would seal the set at 25-14.
The second set has the FDU claiming the first lead of the match 3-1 with a kill from O'Sullivan and two kills from freshman
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro). CCSU claims the lead on a 6-2 run with a kill from Wyckoff to bring the score to 7-5. The Knights reclaim the lead taking six points unanswered with a kill from O'Sullivan, Laton and junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) to make the score 11-7. The Blue Devils go on a 8-4 point run to tie the score at 15-15 with two kills from Addi. The teams split the next 10 points with a kill from Wyckoff and Laton to bring the score to 20-20. The Knights outscore the Blue Devils 4-3 with two kills from O'Sullivan to take the lead 24-23. It wouldn't be enough as CCSU goes on a 4-1 point run to give them the win 27-25.
The final set has the Blue Devils jumping out to an early 6-1 lead. The teams split the next eight points with a kill from O'Sullivan two kills from Wyckoff and a service ace from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 10-5. CCSU outscores FDU 4-2 to extend its lead to 14-7 with a kill from Lolland and O'Sullivan. The Knights answer going on a 4-2 point run with a kill from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 16-11. The teams split the next 10 points to bring the score to 21-16 with a kill from Lolland and Laton. CCSU closes the match on a 4-3 point run with a kill from O'Sullivan to make the score 25-19.
O'Sullivan led the offense with 13 kills and received a double-double adding 12 digs. At the net Butler would record 32 assists, while Laton would have five total blocks. On defense senior Deborah would have a team-leading 26 digs.
FDU returns to action in Hackensack, N.J. at the Startis Arena hosting Bryant on Sunday Nov. 16, for senior day, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
