Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team fell to NEC power house LIU Brooklyn in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-22. With the win the Blackbirds improve to 18-6 overall and 9-0 in NEC play, while the Knights fall to 6-19 overall and 4-7 in NEC play.
The match starts with FDU jumping out to an early 5-2 lead with two kills from freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota), a kill from senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) and a kill from junior
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights). The Blackbirds then take off to gain a 8-7 lead which would include a kill from Gibbons. LIU outscores FDU 11-3 to bring their lead to 19-10, with two kills from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). The Blackbirds close the set taking nine of the next 11 points scored with a kill from O'Sullivan, making the final score 25-12.
The second set would have the Knights taking another early 5-3 lead with a kill from Addi and a service ace from O'Sullivan. LIU turns the tables going on a 9-1 point run to bring the score to 12-6 which includes a kill from freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont). The Blackbirds go on another run taking eight of the next 10 points scored to bring the score to 20-8. FDU goes on a 5-3 point run with a kill from Gibbons to close the gap to 23-13. The last two points come from LIU with an attack error from the Knights to close the set at 25-13.
The final set has the two teams splitting the first six points with kills from O'Sullivan and Wyckoff to make the score 3-3. The teams battle back-and-fourth splitting the next 12 points with a kill from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 9-9. The Knights gain the lead taking six of the next nine points scored with kills from Wyckoff, Laton and O'Sullivan to make the score 15-12. The Blackbirds regain the lead taking six points unanswered to make the score 18-15. FDU makes a push taking six of the next 11 points scored to close the gap to 23-21 with kills from O'Sullivan and Gibbons, but it wouldn't be enough as LIU goes on a 2-1 point run to close the match with a score of 25-22.
O'Sullivan led the team with a total of seven kills. At the net junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) would record 18 digs, while on defense if would be senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) that recorded 15 digs.
FDU will return to action on Wednesday Nov. 5 for a non-conference match against NJIT in Newark, N.J. with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
