Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell in three sets in a nonconference match against Manhanttan, with scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-11. With the win the Jaspers improve to 10-8 overall, while the Knights fall to 3-15 overall.
Manhattan would start the match by jumping out to an early 6-1 lead with a kill from freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota). FDU would take two of the next three points with two kills from junior
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) to push the score to 7-3. The teams would exchange the next six points with kills from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and O'Sullivan to bring the score to 10-6. The Jaspers would go on a 5-2 run with a kill from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 15-8. The Knights go on a 3-2 point run to inch closer bringing the score to 17-11 with kills from freshman
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro) and Gibbons. FDU would outscore Manhattan 5-4 with two kills from
O'Sullivan cutting the lead to 21-16.Though the Knights would outscore the Jaspers 5-4 with kills from Lolland, Laton and Gibbons, it wouldn't be enough as a kill from Manhattan would seal the deal at 25-21.
The second set would have the Jaspers commanding a 8-2 lead with kills from O'Sullivan and Gibbons. The Knights would make a comeback going on a 7-3 point run to close the gap to 11-9 with a kill from Gibbons and a service ace from junior
Grace Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford). Manhattan would extend its lead taking seven of the next nine points scored which includes a kill from O'Sullivan bringing the score to 18-11. FDU would take two of the next three points scored with a kill from Lolland to bring the score to 19-13. The Jaspers finish out the set going on a 6-2 run with kills from Laton and O'Sullivan to close the set at 25-15.
The Knights would get their first lead of the match on an attack error from Manhattan to open the final set at 1-0. The Jaspers would then go on a 7-2 point run with kills from O'Sullivan and Lolland to gain back the lead at 7-3. FDU outscored Manhattan 5-3 to come within two points with kills from Lolland and freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont), along with a service ace from freshman
Josephine Gallagher (Aurora, Ill./Rosary). The Knights would only score three more points with two of them being kills from O'Sullivan, as Manhattan would go on a tear getting 15 points to close the match with a score of 25-11.
O'Sullivan would lead the offense for FDU getting 11 kills. At the net junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) would have a team leading 25 assists, while on defense fellow classmate
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) would lead the squad with 10 digs.
The Knights will return to action on Sunday Oct. 12 to face Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. for an NEC matchup, with first serve slated for 2 p.m.
