Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team dominated Saint Francis U in a four set win with scores of 25-19, 25-9, 16-25 and 25-16. With the win the Knights improve to 5-18 overall and 3-6 in NEC play, while the Red Flash fall to 9-14 overall and 5-4 in NEC play.
The match would start with FDU taking a 3-1 lead with a kill from freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota). The Knights outscore Saint Francis U 7-4 to push their lead to 10-5 with a kill from junior
Grace Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and fellow classmate
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) along with service aces from junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) and O'Sullivan. The Red Flash fought back outscoring FDU 8-2 which would include a kill from freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) to give them a 13-12 lead. The teams exchange the next eight points with a kill from O'Sullivan and Hong to bring the score to 17-16. The Knights finish the set taking nine of the next 11 points scored with two kills from O'Sullivan and Wyckoff to close the set at 25-19.
FDU starts the second set with a dominating 10-2 lead with a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), O'Sullivan and senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) along with three services aces from Butler. The Knights continue to dominate taking six of the next nine points scored with a kill from Laton, Wyckoff and Gibbons to push their lead to 16-5. A kill from Laton and O'Sullivan separate the teams even further as FDU goes on a 4-2 point run to bring the score to 20-7. The Knights close the set by taking five of the next seven points scored with a kill from Laton and Addi along with three kills from O'Sullivan.
The third set starts with FDU taking an early 4-3 lead with three kills from O'Sullivan. Saint Francis would then go off taking five of the next nine points scored with two kills from Laton and a service ace from Hong to tie the score at 8-8. The Red Flash would claim the lead after going on a 8-2 run with a kill from Butler to bring the score to 16-10. The teams split the next eight points with a kill from O'Sullivan and two kills from Wyckoff to bring the score to 20-14. Saint Francis U closed out the set by taking five of the next seven points scored which would include a kill from Laton and Wyckoff to give it the win 25-16.
The final set had the Red Flash taking the lead at 4-1 which includes a kill from O'Sullivan. The Knights answer by going on a 6-1 point run to command a 7-5 lead with a kill from Addi, Wyckoff and O'Sullivan, along with a service ace from Butler. FDU extend its lead after taking five of the next seven points scored with a kill from Gibbons and a service ace from senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford). Saint Francis answered going on a 7-2 run to tie the score at 14-14 with a kill from Wyckoff and Gibbons. FDU closed the door on the Red Flash after going on an 11-2 point run with kills from O'Sullivan, Butler and Gibbons, along with two service aces from junior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) to bring the score to 25-16.
O'Sullivan led the team recording her tenth double-double of the season with 20 kills and 24 digs. At the net Butler would have a commanding 40 assists and five service aces, while Gibbons would lead the team with five blocks. D. Hong would be a force on defense with 21 digs along with Lostetter's 19 digs.
FDU will return to action on Wednesday Oct 29 for a mid-week match up against St. Francis Brooklyn in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
