Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team fell to Bryant in three sets with scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-13. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 8-18 overall and 4-3 in NEC play, while the Knights fall to 4-17 overall and 2-5 in NEC play.
The match would start with FDU jumping out to an early 4-2 lead with a kill and service ace from freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota). Bryant would come back to take eight of the next 11 points scored which would include a kill from freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) to bring the score to 11-7. The Knights outscore the Bulldogs 6-5 to bring the score to 16-13 with two kills from O'Sullivan. Bryant would go on a 6-1 run to push their lead to 22-14. FDU would try to come back out scoring Bryant 5-3 with a kill from freshman
Madisen Phipps (Boise, Idaho/Timberline), but it wouldn't be enough as the Bulldogs take the set 25-19.
The second set had Bryant jumping out to take a 5-3 lead with a kill from junior
Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights). The teams would split the next eight points with kills from O'Sullivan and Phipps to bring the score to 9-7. The Knights would outscore the Bulldogs 6-4 to tie the score at 13-13 with kills from Gibbons, Phipps, O'Sullivan and senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers). Bryant would regain the lead going on a 5-2 point run which would bring the score to 18-15. FDU would take the lead after going on a 6-1 point run with two kills from O'Sullivan and a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) bringing the score to 21-19. The Bulldogs close out the set by going on a 7-3 point run with kills form O'Sullivan and Phipps to bring the score to 26-24.
The final set would have Bryant jumping out to a 5-3 lead with a kill from Laton and a service ace from junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano). The Bulldogs would go on a 9-3 point run to extend their lead to 14-6 with a kill from Laton. The Knights would make a push splitting the next 10 points with two kills from O'Sullivan to bring the score to 19-11. Bryant would go on a 6-2 point run with a kill from O'Sullivan to close out the match at 25-13.
O'Sullivan would lead the Knights on offense and defense recording her eighth career double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. At the net for FDU Butler would have a team-leading 17 assists while Addi would lead the squad with three blocks. On defense senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) would follow O'Sullivan recording 12 digs of her own.
FDU will return to action Saturday Oct. 4 and Sunday Oct. 5 in the Stratis Arena in Hackensack, N.J. Saturday the Knights will take on Robert Morris with first serve slated for 1 p.m. before hosting Saint Francis U on Sunday with first serve at 3 p.m.
