Box Score NEW BRITAIN, CONN. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson's women's volleyball team defeats Central Connecticut in three sets with scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-23. With the win the Knights improve to 4-16 overall and 2-4 in Northeast Conference play, while the Blue Devils fall to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in NEC play.
The match would start with both teams exchanging the first four points bringing the score to 2-2 with kills from the freshman duo of
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) and
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro). CCSU would go on a run taking four of the next five points scored which included a kill from Lolland to bring the score to 6-3. FDU would retaliate going on a 6-2 run with a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), a kill from O'Sullivan and a service ace from junior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) giving it the lead 9-8. The two teams would tie the score up at 9, 10 and 11 with a kill from senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) and Lolland. The Knights went on a 8-2 point run to gain a 19-13 lead that they would not relinquish with kills from Lolland, Laton and O'Sullivan, along with a service ace from senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford). The teamw oudl go back-and- fourth each taking six of the next 12 points scored bringing the set to 25-19.
FDU would jump out to an early 4-1 point lead to start the second set with two kills from freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont). The Blue Devils went on a run taking 11 of the next 12 points scored to take a commanding 12-5 lead. The Knights would battle back going on a 11-3 point run to tie the score at 16-16 with kills from Lolland, Wyckoff, Laton along with two service aces from junior
Grace Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford). The team would tie the score at 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 before back-to-back kills Lolland and O'Sullivan would close the set at 26-24.
The final set had CCSU taking an early 6-2 lead which would include kills from Addi and O'Sullivan. FDU would come back to take the lead 10-9 after outscoring the Blue Devils 8-3 with a kill from O'Sullivan and junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano). CCSU would outscore FDU 5-1 to regain its lead with a kill from O'Sullivan bringing the score to 14-11. The Knights battled back going on a 5-1 point run to take the lead at 16-15. The teams would tie the score at 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 with kills from Lolland, Butler and O'Sullivan. FDU would close the amtch taking three of the next four points scored to collect the victory at 25-23.
O'Sullivan would lead the Knights on offense and defense recording her seventh career double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. At the net for FDU Butler would have a commanding 33 assists while Wyckoff and Addi would each record 8 blocks. On defense D. Hong would follow O'Sullivan recording 12 digs of her own.
FDU will return to action Sunday, Oct. 19 in Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant, with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
