Box Score FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Sacred Heart, with scores of 25-21, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-17. With the win the Pioneers improve to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in NEC play, while the Knights fall to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in NEC play.
FDU start the match with an early 2-1 lead, which would include a kill from sophomore
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Sacred Heart would then go on a run taking five of the next six points scored, which would have a kill from senior
Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) to bring the score to 6-3. The Knights take four of the next seven points scored to bring the score to 9-7 with kills from Laton and freshman
Alex Lolland (Auburn, Calif./Del Oro). The teams would split the next ten points bringing the score to 14-12 with kills from Laton, freshman
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) and a service ace from senior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford). FDU would go on a 7-2 point run to gain a lead of 19-16 with kills from Addi and freshman
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont). It wouldn't be enough as the Pioneers take nine of the next 11 points with kills from Laton and O'Sullivan to win the set 25-21.
The second set would have the Knights jumping out to a 2-0 lead before exchanging the next six points bringing the score to 5-3 with a kills from O'Sullivan. Both teams would battle and share the next eight points with kills from O'Sullivan, Lolland and Wyckoff to bring the score to 9-7. FDU would go on a run taking seven of the next nine points scored with kills from Lolland and Addi to push its lead to 16-9. Sacred Heart would make a push going on a 6-5 run with kills from Lolland and O'Sullivan to bring the score to 21-15. It wouldn't be enough as the Knights take the next four points with kills from Laton and O'Sullivan to get FDU its lone win at 25-15.
The Knights start the third set with a 4-2 lead with service aces from Hong and Laton. The Pioneers make a comeback taking six of the next eight points scored giving them the lead 8-6. The teams would split the next ten points with a kill from Lolland to bring the score to 13-11. Both teams would battle back-and-fourth splitting the next ten points with two kills from Addi to push the score to 18-16. Sacred Heart would finish off the set going on a 7-1 point run to win the set 25-17.
The final set had FDU again taking the early 2-1 lead with a kills from O'Sullivan. Sacred Heart would go on a 5-1 point run to jump out to a 6-3 lead. The Pioneers would extend their lead taking five of the next eight points scored with kills from Lolland and Wyckoff to bring the score to 11-6.The teams split the next ten points with a kill from Laton to bring the score to 16-11. Splitting the next six points with a kill from Laton and a service ace from junior
Grace Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) the score is pushed to 19-14. The Pioneers would finish off the set going on a 6-1 point run with a kill from O'Sullivan to take the match 25-17.
O'Sullivan would lead the offense for FDU getting 9 kills. At the net junior
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) would have a team leading 29 assists, while Addi would have a team high eight blocks. On defense junior
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) would lead the way with 18 digs, with O'Sullivan and D. Hong following with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
The Knights return to action Saturday Oct. 18 to face Central Connecticut State, in New Britain, Conn for an NEC matchup, with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
