W. Basketball Starts NEC Slate on Saturday

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (1-10, 0-0 NEC) will begin Northeast Play on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they travel to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant. Tipoff at the Chace Athletic Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on NEC Front Row.

Last Time Out
The Knights traveled to Miami, Fla. last weekend (Dec. 28-29) for the FIU Sun & Fun Classic, where they fell to the hosts, Florida International, 79-57, and to Florida A&M, 62-52. Senior Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 12 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. Crawford had a monster performance against Florida A&M, posting a career-high 19 points to go along with 12 boards. Freshmen Kiana Brown (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) and Valerie Oyakhilome (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) both had career-highs in the FIU game with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Brown also added a game-high five assists.

What You Need To Know: The Bulldogs were 1-4 in November to start the season but finished December with a record of 4-2 and are currently on a three-game winning streak, including scoring 100 points against UMass-Lowell. Head Coach Mary Burke employs a very experienced rotation, which features four seniors and one graduate student among seven players that play double-digit minutes per game. Senior forward Naana Ankoma-Mensa recently scored her 1,000th career point in their win over Columbia and currently averages the second-most points per game for her team at 12.2 to go along with 9.1 rebounds per game. Senior Jenniqua Bailey leads the team with 12.8 points per game and, as a guard, is shooting an incredible 51 percent from the field. Bailey also dishes out 5.0 assists per game and registers 2.1 steals per game.
