EASTON, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team concluded the Lafayette College Tournament on Saturday with a pair of defeats. In the morning, the Knights fell to Lafayette on its home court, 3-0, before concluding the tournament with a 3-1 defeat against Wright State in the afternoon. FDU drops to 0-9 on the season.
In the first match of the day against the Leopards, the Knights lost by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-20. FDU received great defensive efforts from junior
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) (17 digs), senior
Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) (13 digs) and senior
Taylor Roland-Buohl (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) (10 digs).
Offensively, sophomore
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) dished out 19 assists, while Slabakova registered eight kills.
In the tournament finale with Wright State, the Knights found themselves down 2-0 after falling by scores of 25-16 and 25-21. In the third set, FDU rallied for a 25-22 victory before dropping the final set, 25-9.
Hong led the Knights on the defensive side with 20 digs. Butler recorded 31 more assists on offense, and freshman
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) controlled the net with 10 kills.
FDU will head back to the state of Pennsylvania next weekend when participates in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. (Sept. 13-14).
