W. Volleyball Falls to Lehigh and Saint Peter's in Lafayette Tournament

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team ran into some bad luck on the first day at the Lafayette College Tournament on Friday, dropping both of its matches. The Knights fell in their first match, 3-0, to Lehigh, who was playing on its home floor. FDU then played Saint Peter's immediately after and lost 3-1 but did win its first game of the season in the defeat. The Knights are now 0-7 on the season.

Against Lehigh, FDU lost the three games 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13. Senior Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) led the way with a double-double, registering a team-best 11 kicks and chipping in 10 digs. Sophomore Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) dished out 24 assists, while junior Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) led the squad with 13 digs.

In the match with Saint Peter's, the Knights were much more competitive. FDU won its first game of the season in the opener, 29-27, before dropping a pair of back-to-back 25-23 contests. The Peahens were able to close out FDU with a 25-20 score in the fourth game.

Slabakova came back with 16 more kills for the Knights against SPU and added nine digs. Butler recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the way in digs with 12, while freshman Courtney Kovensky (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley) added 10 kills.

FDU will conclude the tournament on Saturday when they play two matches at Lafayette. The Knights will play the host Leopards for a 9 a.m. match before taking on Wright State at 2:30 p.m.
