TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Delaware State Sunday afternoon at University Stadium. With the victory, the Knights improve to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 0-9-0 overall.

After a scoreless first half, which saw FDU hold a commanding 10-1 lead in shots, the Knights finally broke through late in the 54th minute, as junior Kasey Schiavoni (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) delivered a beautiful corner kick, and sophomore Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ) was able to deliver a header to the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The goal was Goulet's second of the season.

Fourteen minutes later, freshman Laniyyah Elam (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) scored her first career goal, as she scored off the rebound from Goulet's free kick for the eventual game winner while giving FDU a 2-0 lead.

The Hornets scored in the 85th minute to cut the Knights' advantage to 2-1 on an own goal, but FDU's mistake was not enough in holding on for the victory.

For the match, the Knights dominated in shots, holding a 19-3 edge. Sophomore Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville ) picked up her first career victory in goal for FDU after playing the second half. Senior Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) made one save over the first 45 minutes.

The Knights will return to action Friday, Oct. 4 when they host Mount St. Mary's for a 7 p.m. kickoff at University Stadium. It will be the Northeast Conference opener for both schools.
