Softball Set to Conclude Season at Army

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will conclude the 2013 season with a double header at Army on Saturday, May 4.  First pitch in West Point, N.Y. is slated for 1 p.m. at the Army Softball Complex.

The Black Knights are 30-22 on the season with a 12-8 Patriot League record.  Army has qualified for the Patriot League Tournament and will face Bucknell on Thursday, May 9 to begin postseason play.

Most recently, the Black Knights fell in both games of a double header at Albany by scores of 3-1 and 4-3 in nine innings. 

As a team, Army averages .279 at the plate and outscored opponents, 195-158 through 48 games.  Amanda Nguyen leads the team with a .382 average, while last week's Patriot League Player of the Week, Alex Reynolds, maintains a .356 average with a team-leading 35 RBI.

In the circle, Morgan Lashley holds a 22-10 win-loss record and a 2.24 ERA.  Lashley has struck out 163 batters through 225 innings, while holding opponents to a .219 average.

Under third-year Head Coach Michelle DePolo, the Black Knights hold a 2-3 record against FDU.  The Knights defeated Army twice in 2011 and once in 2012.  The teams were scheduled to meet at the Rebel Spring Games in March of this year but saw a cancellation. 

The Knights concluded Northeast Conference action with an overall record of 22-20 and a conference mark of 10-10. 

Collectively, the Knights have averaged .255 at the plate and have outscored opponents, 147-126 in 42 games.  Senior Mikayla Fernandez (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) leads the team with a .317 batting average, while freshman Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley High School) has hit .316 as a rookie.  Both players are natives of Mission Viejo, Calif. and each have seven home runs on the season.  Slye paces the team with 20 RBI.

Freshman Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical High School) leads the team defensively with an ERA of 1.57 in 21 appearances.  Stavrou holds a win-loss record of 7-5 and has struck out 62 batters in 89 innings, while holding opponents to an average of .219.
