Softball Readies for Midweek Contest at Saint Peter's

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will break from Northeast Conference action to take on Saint Peter's University on Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader in Jersey City, N.J. slated to begin at 3 p.m.

The Knights are 13-13 on the year after picking up a walk-off win over NEC preseason favorite Robert Morris on Sunday. In the previous three seasons, the Knights have outscored Saint Peter's, 48-13, while picking up seven wins in seven attempts.

FDU is currently led by freshman Madelaine Wilen (Bakerfield, Calif./Ridgeview High School), who is posting a .329 batting average through 26 games. The rookie catcher drove in the winning run against RMU and has nine RBI on the season. Freshman Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley High School) and sophomore Angelique Nieves (Union City, N.J./High Tech High School) are also hitting over .300, with marks of .315 and .312, respectively.

Freshman Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical High School) has been the ace in the circle for FDU this season with a 1.64 ERA and a 4-2 win-loss record. The team maintains an ERA of 2.19, while holding the opposition to a .247 batting average.

As a team, the Knights are hitting .260 from the plate and outscoring foes, 179-171, on the year.

The Peacocks are 5-28 on the year and are currently riding a five-game losing streak, which includes two losses to NEC foe Wagner College. The team hits .242 from the plate and are led by Francesca D'Amato's 327 average through 33 games. She also has four home runs and 13 RBI on the season.

Collectively, the Peacocks have been outscored, 272-92, in 33 games and maintain a team ERA of 8.28.

Following Wednesday's matinee, the Knights will host NEC opponents Sacred Heart and Bryant this weekend in Hackensack.
