WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team fell to Army, 75-51, Thursday night at Christl Arena. With the victory, the Black Knights improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-2 overall.
Junior
Katie Buskey (Maple Valley, Wash./Tahoma) led FDU with a career-high 14 points and a career-best seven rebounds.
"I think that we picked up our defensive intensity in the second half, but we have to find a way to play that way for 40 minutes," Head Coach
Peter Cinella said. "We especially need to increase our intensity on the boards. I am very happy with
Katie Buskey (Maple Valley, Wash./Tahoma)'s performance this evening, particularly in the second half."
Army, which knocked down all 10 of its 19 three-point attempts in the first half, took a 46-32 lead into the locker room largely based on a 72.7% shooting performance (10-of-14) from beyond-the- arc. The Black Knights' Kelsey Minato shot 6-of-7 from three-point land to finish the first half with 20 points to lead all scorers at the break.
Army opened the second half on an 11-3 run over the first 7:00 of play to extend the lead to 23 before the Knights started to chip away at the margin. FDU cut the deficit to as little as 16 points on two separate occasions, but were unable to draw any closer, as the Black Knights closed out the game on another 11-3 run over the final 5:00 minutes of play to secure the victory.
The Knights will return to action Saturday, Nov. 16 when they return to Stratis Arena to host Siena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
