HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell to second-place Central Connecticut State, 3-0, Sunday on Senior Day at Stratis Arena. The Blue Devils won by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-17. With the victory, CCSU improves to 19-7 (10-2 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 4-23 (2-10 NEC) overall.
In the opening set CCSU broke open a 4-4 tie with three straight points and never relinquished the lead. FDU cut the lead to 11-8, but it was the closest it would come, as the Blue Devils closed out the set on a 14-5 run.
In the second set the Knights broke away from another 4-4 tie with kills from sophomore
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) and freshmen Alyssa Mcivor and
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) to take an 8-4 lead.
The Knights still led by three at 11-8 before the Blue Devils came back to tie the set three different times. With the score deadlocked at 14-14, FDU scored the next two to retake the lead at 16-14. However, it was all CCSU after that, as the visitors finished the set on an 11-1 spurt, including the final eight points, to take a 2-0 lead.
The final set saw the Blue Devils breakaway from a 7-7 tie to cruise the victory.
Mcivor led the Knights with a double-double. On offense she smashed 10 kills while recording a team-best 10 digs on defense. Butler dished out 28 assists.
FDU will conclude the season next weekend when it takes on Saint Francis University (11/16) and Robert Morris (11/17) in NEC play.
