SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell to Bryant, 3-1, Sunday at the Chace Athletic Center in Northeast Conference action. With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 5-16 (2-2 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 1-16 (0-4 NEC) overall.
Three of the four sets were close, as the home team needed to win 29 points en route to taking the first set, 29-27. The scores of the next two sets were identical 25-22 scores, with Bryant taking the second set and FDU the third. In the fourth set the Bulldogs pulled away with a 25-17 victory to clinch the match.
Graduate student
Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) paced the Knights with a double-double, as she led the way on offense with 15 kills. Defensively, she had a team-high 14 digs and added three block assists.
Also on the offensive end, sophomore
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) distributed 37 assists and added nine digs on defense. Freshman
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) recorded a match-high seven block-assists.
FDU will return to action next weekend when it travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face St. Francis Brooklyn (Oct. 12) and LIU Brooklyn (Oct. 13). Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
