W. Volleyball Looks Ahead to Match at Fordham

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will go for its fourth win of the season when the Knights travel to the Bronx, N.Y. to face Fordham on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.

FDU (3-5) is coming off the Lafayette College Tournament where senior Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) broke the program's record for career kills. The Chatsworth, Calif. native passed Lauren Boothby's mark of 1,406 kills in the Knights' 3-2 loss to Lafayette in the tournament finale. Wheeler, who now has 1,408 career kills, was named to the All-Tournament team along with freshman Jordon Collis (Frisco, TX/Frisco).

Wheeler leads the Knights with 151 kills and 132 digs on the year. Defensively, freshman Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) has been solid in eight matches with 11 solo blocks and 27 block assists.

Fordham (1-7) is fresh off a 3-1 loss to Marist on Monday. The Rams' lone win of the season came at the expense of NJIT on Sept. 1 by a 3-2 score.

The Knights and Rams have only squared off once since 2005. The matchup came in 2010 when FDU lost to Fordham 3-0 at the Columbia Tournament.

A majority of Fordham's offense runs through Lisa Hipp, who has picked up a team-high 116 kills. Through their first eight matches, Abigail Konovodoff has racked up 254 of the team's 352 assists.

Following the match at Fordham, the Knights will participate in the Kaiser Classic hosted by St. John's in Queens, N.Y. FDU will face the host Red Storm on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and will play Idaho State at 11 a.m. and Bryant at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
