TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (1-1-0) will look to build on its first win of the season when they travel to Newark, N.J. to take on the Highlanders of NJIT Saturday night for their first road match of the season. Kickoff at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcom Simon Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Freshman Simon Doherty (West Lothian, Scotland/West Calder)'s goal in the 86th minute enabled the Knights to claim a 1-0 victory over Lafayette this past Tuesday night at University Stadium. Junior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) made three saves, all in crunch time down the stretch, including one that prevented the visitors from scoring when the game was tied.

NJIT, who plays as an independent in men's soccer, is off to a 2-0-0 start after posting a pair of shutouts over VMI (3-0) and Saint Joseph's (2-0). The Highlanders return four starters from a squad that finished 5-12-2 a season ago. Five different players have scored a goal, while goalie Lars Maalen-Johansen has made eight saves without allowing a goal.

FDU and NJIT are meeting for the 11th time in the all-time series, which dates back to 1954. The Knights hold a 5-3-2 advantage and have won three straight in the series, including a 2-1 overtime victory last season at University Stadium. Former Knight Jonathan Gonzalez (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) found the back of the net off a corner kick by Anders Vest Hansen (Nykobing, Denmark/Celf) to give FDU the win. Antony Moore (Douglas, Isle of Man/St. Ninian’s ), who was making his Knights' debut, also scored for FDU in its first game of the 2011 season.

Senior Jack McVey (Douglas, Isle of Man/St. Ninian’s ) will be returning to the place he played  at over his first two collegiate seasons, scoring five goals as a sophomore for the Highlanders.
