The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team fell to Bryant in their final double header of the 2012 season. With loses of 10-4 and 3-0, the Knights drop to 30-20 on the season with a 7-13 Northeast Conference mark.
The 30-win season is an FDU program best.
A two-run homerun by Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove) put the Knights up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, and put Bradac at the top of the all-time FDU home run record. With 15 career homeruns, Bradac ties classmate Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood) as the all-time leader.
The Bulldogs responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the first and a homerun in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two.
A two-run homerun followed by two walks and a single gave the Bulldogs a five-run advantage in the bottom of the third.
Bryant added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.
An RBI single from Bradac in the fifth and an RBI double by Shreve in the sixth increased the Knights' run total, but it would not be enough to catch the Bulldogs.
With seven earned runs on six hits, Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) earned the loss in game one.
After three scoreless innings, the Bulldogs took a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth in game two.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double.
The Knights compiled nine hits in game two but left 14 runners on and were unable to score.
Reiner earned the loss in game two with two earned runs on five hits. She struck out six through six innings.
The double-header concluded the Knights' 2012 season. The team will lose four players to graduation this spring.
