Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team dropped its doubleheader Sunday afternoon to Quinnipiac at the FDU Softball Field in Hackensack, NJ.  The Bobcats took game one, 3-1, and completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the night cap.  With the victories, Quinnipiac improves to 22-12 (9-5 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 23-16 (5-9 NEC) overall.

Pitching was the story over the first four innings as both teams failed to score.  However, the Bobcats were the first team on the scoreboard as they scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead on Jacquie Ristow's two-out, two-run double.

FDU had runners on first and third with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning but failed to score.

Quinnipiac tacked on a third unearned run in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Maria Roney (Anacortes, WA/Anacortes) broke up a no-hitter with a lead-off double to begin the inning and moved to third on a groundout.  She then scored on senior Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood)'s RBI sacrifice fly to left field, but it was not enough as the Bobcats hung on for the 3-1 victory.

Freshman Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) (13-5) went the distance on the mound as she was tagged with the loss.  The righty allowed three unearned runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out six.  Heather Schwartzburg picked up the win in the complete-game effort as she allowed one earned run on only one hit, while walking four and striking out seven.

Christy Cabrera and Ristow each had two hits to lead the Bobcats' seven-hit effort with Ristow collecting a pair of RBIs.

In game two, the Knights struck first as they scored a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.  Freshman Cindy Zamudio (Wilmington, Calif./Redondo Union) led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on sophomore Paige Castro (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin)'s bunt single and scored on freshman Jordan Needle (Camarillo, CA/La Reina College Prep)'s RBI single down the left field line.

Quinnipiac took the lead for good in the top of the third on Alex Alba's two-out, two-run homer, which occurred after the first two hitters of the inning were retired.

In the top of the fourth, FDU committed two of its five errors in the inning as the Bobcats scored three times to take a 5-1 lead.  The big hit of the frame was Alba's two-run single.

The Knights offense could not muster anything the rest of the afternoon as Quinnipiac cruised to the 5-1 victory to complete the sweep.

Reiner (13-6) started the second game on the mound as well and was charged with the loss.  In 4.0 innings of work, she allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits, while walking one, striking out two and also plunked a batter.

Schwartzburg pitched her second complete-game effort for her second victory of the day as she allowed one earned run on five hits, while walking one and striking out five.

Needle went 2-for-2 with a RBI and a walk to lead FDU's offense.  Alba and Ashley Heiberger each had two hits to pace the Bobcats' nine-hit attack with Alba and Mina Duffy each picking up two RBIs.

FDU will return to action on Wednesday, April 18 with a home doubleheader against Columbia.  First pitch at the FDU Softball Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
