The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will travel to Western Pennsylvania to take on Robert Morris University and Saint Francis PA, Sunday, April 1 and Monday, April 2. The SFPA game was originally slated for Saturday afternoon but was moved due to impending rain.
The Knights currently top the Northeast Conference standings with a 16-5 overall record, including a 2-0 conference mark. They defeated Central Connecticut in two games last weekend to open NEC play.
FDU has been led by a duo of freshman this year. Cindy Zamudio (Wilmington, Calif./Redondo Union) is currently leading the squad with a .453 batting average. The rookie has 34 hits in 75 at bats, with six extra-base hits. She leads the nation with no strikeouts in 75 at bats.
Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) has been spectacular on the mound for FDU. The freshman is 10-0 with an ERA of 1.36. She has struck out 64 batters in 72.2 innings, while allowing just 11 earned runs on 51 hits.
The Knights are batting .333 as a team with eight batters averaging over .300. They have out-scored opponents, 111-55 in 21 games so far.
The Colonials of Robert Morris are 16-12 on the season with a 3-1 conference record, for second place right now. They defeated LIU Brooklyn before splitting with Wagner last weekend and picked up two wins over Cleveland State on Wednesday.
In 86 at bats, Sarah Capp has led the Colonials with a batting average of .349. RMU has outscored opponents, 111-95 in 28 games with a team batting average of .264. They maintain a team ERA of 2.81.
The Red Flash are an even 12-12 this year with a 2-2 conference record. Last weekend they split games at LIU Brooklyn and Wagner. SFPA has maintained a team batting average of .243, while outscoring opponents, 80-77 in 24 games. They have allowed opponents to score an average of 2.38 earned runs per game.
The Knights will complete a six-game road trip before returning home on April 12 for a bout with in-state rival, Saint Peter's.
