Softball Looks to Continue Success at UMBC Retriever Classic

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will travel to Baltimore, MD to play in the UMBC Retriever Classic, Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4.  The Knights will face Niagara and Coppin State twice before taking on host, UMBC.

FDU began the season with a perfect 3-0 record at Norfolk State last weekend.  The Knights outscored their opponents, 32-9 backed by impressive hitting from several players.  Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove) led the team and an impressive weekend at the plate.  The senior went 9-for-10 through three games with eight RBIs and a homerun.  Elizabeth Woidt also produced runs for FDU by going 5-for-8 and driving in four runs.

The Knights maintained a team earned run average of 3.18.  Freshman Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) led the team from the mound, with an impressive 1.29 ERA in seven innings.  Reiner recorded her first collegiate win and save at NSU.

Niagara is 0-5 on the season after falling to several teams at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, TN.  Jen Hare leads the team with a .357 batting average, while Becky Zill knocked in four runs in their opening weekend.  The Purple Eagles were outscored 13-35 in their first five games.

Coppin State is 3-1 so far after a four-game series against South Carolina State.  Heather Josker leads the team with a .538 batting average, after going 7-for-13 with five RBIs against SC State.  Paige Arnold drove in seven runs on seven hits.  The team outscored SC State, 40-15, while maintaining a team ERA of 1.15.

Host, UMBC, is 2-6 on the year, with wins over Seton Hall and Hampton.  The Retrievers fell to Longwood, St. John's and Wright State in their first two tournaments of the season.  Jessica Warner leads the Retrievers with a .435 batting average, while Taylor Hall has batted .391 in the team's first eight games. 

The Knights will travel to Kissimmee, FL March 9-17 for the Rebel Spring Games.  FDU will play 12 games in the Sunshine State before returning to FDU for Northeast Conference play.
