The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team returns home to host the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 pm as part of a men's/women's double header.
The Knights are 10-12 on the year with an even 5-5 mark in Northeast Conference action after earning a road win at Bryant last weekend.
FDU held Bryant to a 24.2 field goal percentage through 40 minutes, while allowing just 16 points in the second half to take the win, 54-43 in Smithfield, RI. It was the Knights' first road conference win outside of New York City since the 2008-09 season.
Senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led all scorers with 21 points, while Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) added 15 and 12, respectively. Livermore and Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) led the team on the boards with seven each.
The Pioneers top the standings in the Northeast Conference with a 16-5 overall record and a 9-1 record in conference play. SHU's only loss in the NEC was against Quinnipiac on Jan. 23. They are 7-4 on the road this season.
As a team, the Pioneers average 65.1 points per game, ten greater than their opponents. They bring down an average of 36.9 rebounds per game. The Pioneers add 15.8 assists and 17.2 turnovers per contest.
Senior Callan Taylor is leading the team, and is third in the NEC, with 17.1 points per game. Taylor also leads the squad in rebounds, with 10.1 per game and shots an astonishing 51.8 percent from the field.
Freshman Gabrielle Washington adds 11.7 points to the Pioneer's total.
The contest will be the 22nd meeting between the Knights and Pioneers since the 1997-98 season.
Sacred Heart holds the advantage with 20 win and just one loss. The Knights have not defeated SHU since 2002.
In last year's meeting, on Feb. 28, the Knights fell to SHU, 59-65, to end the regular season.
