The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will conclude the regular season on Monday, Feb. 27 against LIU Brooklyn. Tip off at Stratis Arena is slated for 7:00 pm. Seniors Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange), Esther Wallce and Amy Longo (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) will be honored prior to the game.
The Knights are 13-16 on the season, with an 8-9 mark in Northeast Conference action after falling to the Terriers of St. Francis NY, 47-62, on Saturday. Laury led the Knights with 18 points; she is currently ranked second in the NEC with 17.5 points per game.
FDU has clinched a position in the NEC postseason tournament, but their seed is dependent on the outcome of Monday night's game.
LIU was picked to finish third in the coaches' preseason poll and began their season with an 11-1 non-conference record. Since that time, the Blackbirds have moved to 20-9 on the season, with a 9-8 NEC mark. The sit just ahead of the Knights in the post-season tournament seeding, their final position will also be dependent on Monday's matchup.
The Blackbirds average 62.8 points per game, while allowing 57.4. They bring down 39.6 rebounds per game and shoot 41.0 percent from the field. The Blackbirds most recently fell to Monmouth, 54-55 on Saturday. NEC leader, Ashley Palmer paced the team with 19 points and eight rebounds. Ebony Davis added 13 points for LIU. Palmer and Davis are averaging 19.0 and 9.5 points per game, respectively.
The Knights hold the advantage in the all-time series with 37 wins and 23 losses since 1979. FDU took the win in the first meeting of the 2011-12 season. After trailing by 10 points early in the game, the Knights battled back to earn the win in the final minutes of play in Brooklyn, NY. Laury led all scorers in the Jan. 16 faceoff with 25 points, while Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) and Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) added 15 and 16 points, respectively, for the Knights. Livermore led FDU with eight rebounds on the day.
