HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team will host Hartford on Sunday, Dec. 9. Tipoff at Stratis Arena is slated for 4 p.m.
The Knights are 4-4 on the year and will be two days removed from a buzzer-beater win over Lafayette. A tip-in by Sidney Sanders Jr. (Charleston, S.C./Burke) as time expired lifted the Knights to an 82-80 win in their home opener. The game-winning play was featured as the No. 2 play in the SportsCenter Top 10 on Friday night.
With 3.4 seconds left on the clock, an inbounds pass found Kinu Rochford (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison), who dished it out to Mustafaa Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) in three-point range. Jones' shot hit the rim and began to fall into chaos under the basket. Sanders, a 5'11 guard, got one hand on the rebound and put the game-winning shot up as time expired to give the Knights the win.
Melquan Bolding (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Bishop Stepinac) is currently leading the Knights with 14.6 points per game, while Kinu Rochford (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) has is averaging 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and has recorded three double-doubles on the year.
The Hawks are 4-4 on the year with wins over Northeast Conference foes Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut. Hartford fell to Quinnipiac in its home opener and most recently dropped a 71-63 decision to Arizona State.
Mark Nwakamma leads the Hawks in scoring at 13.1 points per game. The team is averaging 61 points per contest, while allowing 61.2 points per game.
The Knights are 8-2 all-time against the Hawks, dating back to 1958. The last time the teams met was 2002 when FDU earned an 81-80 victory in overtime.
The Knights will break for finals before traveling to Vermont on Saturday, December 22.
