SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team will continue action at the South Padre Island Invitational on Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 at the South Padre Island Convention Center. The Knights will take on Delaware State University on Friday before facing either Navy or Prairie View A&M on Saturday to conclude the tournament.
The Knights fell to Northwestern and Illinois State in the opening rounds at on-campus sites. They are now 0-3 on the season. Melquan Bolding (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Bishop Stepinac), Lonnie Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) and Mathias Seilund (Dragoer, Denmark/Falkonergaardens Gymnasium) lead the Knights, each averaging double-digit points. Bolding has put up 15.0 points per game through three contests, while Robinson and Seilund add 13.3 and 10.7, respectively. Robinson is leading the team with 5.0 rebounds per game.
FDU will take on Delaware State at 12 p.m. Central Time on Friday. The Hornets are 3-2 on the year under Head Coach Greg Jackson. DSU won three-consecutive games before the start if the South Padre Island Invitational, including a 73-69 overtime win over Wagner.
In South Padre competition the Hornets fell to Illinois State, 87-48, and Northwestern, 69-50.
Tahj Tate leads the team with 15.2 points per game and a season-high of 23 points in the loss to Northwestern.
The winner of the FDU-DSU game will face the winner of a matchup between Navy and Prairie View A&M, while the loser will face the loser of that match. The winner's game is slated for 1:15 pm on Saturday, while the losers will play at 10:45 am.
The Midshipmen of Navy are 2-3 on the year with losses to Alabama Birmingham and Texas Christian University in SPI action. Tilman Dunbar leads the squad with 11.8 points per game.
The Panthers of PVA&M are 2-4 this season, also with losses to UAB and TCU.
The matchup between Navy and PVA&M is slated for 2:30 pm on Friday.
