M. Basketball Set to Begin South Padre Invitational at Northwestern

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team will open competition at the South Padre Island Invitational with a road game against Northwestern University on Sunday, Nov. 18.  The Knights will take on the Wildcats at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at the Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill. 

The Knights are 0-1 on the season after dropping their season opener to Xavier, 117-75 on Nov. 9.  Seniors Lonnie Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) and Melquan Bolding (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Bishop Stepinac) led the Knights against the Atlantic-10 team with 20 and 17 points, respectively. 

The Wildcats of Northwestern are 2-0 on the year after defeating Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley State.  They have outscored opponents by an average of 21.5 points this season, while scoring an average of 80 points per game.

NU has shot .500 percent from the floor, with a .479 three-point percentage.  Three players average double digit points.  Reggie Hearn leads the team with 16.0 points per game, while Jared Swopshire and Drew Crawford add 15.5 and 12 points per game, respectively. 

Swopshire leads the Wildcats with 7.0 rebounds per game.

The Wildcats finished seventh in the Big Ten last season.  Sunday's game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Digital Network.

Following Sunday's game, the Knights will travel to Normal, Ill. to take on Illinois State.  On Wednesday, Nov. 22, the Knights and two Illinois-based teams will make the trip to South Padre Island, Texas for the final two games of the South Padre Invitational.
