HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will continue Northeast Conference play with a trip to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on first place LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center.
The Knights (7-11, 3-2 NEC) currently sit in fourth place in the NEC and had won two straight before suffering a 3-2 loss at Bryant on Oct. 7. The Blackbirds (12-7, 5-0 NEC) enter the match on a six match winning streak. The 2011 NEC regular season champions have not lost since Sept. 15 against Maryland.
The Knights' main sources of offense have been freshman
Jordon Collis (Frisco, TX/Frisco) and her 166 kills and senior
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep), who ranks seventh in the nation with 4.61 kills per set and 12th in points per set with 5.15.
Their last time out, Wheeler pieced together her 11th double-double of the season with 19 kills and 17 digs, while freshman
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) added 44 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double on the season.
Head Coach
Stacey Recanati's club lost to LIU Brooklyn twice last season, with both losses by 3-0 scores. This season, the Blackbirds lead the NEC with a team hitting percentage of .222 and are holding opponents to a conference-best .175 clip.
LIU's Ashley Rice ranks third in the conference with a .329 hitting percentage, and Vera Djuric leads the NEC with 10.26 assists per set. On defense, Rice is first with 1.18 blocks per set and Adriana Vinas Joy checks in at second with 4.13 digs per set.
FDU will return home following the match in Brooklyn for a two-match homestand this weekend. The Knights will take on Saint Francis PA on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. and Robert Morris the following day at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, N.J.
