W. Soccer Set to Wrap Up Season Against CCSU and LIU Brooklyn

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will conclude the 2012 season this weekend with games against Central Connecticut State and LIU Brooklyn.  The Knights will travel to New Britain, Conn. for a Friday night contest against CCSU before hosting LIU on Sunday at noon.

The Knights are 5-9-3 on the year with a 2-6 record in Northeast Conference action.  Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) leads the team, and all NEC rookies, with nine goals and two assists on the season. 

Freshman keeper Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville ) has played the last three games in goal for FDU and has recorded 0.61 goals allowed per game with a .833 save percentage.

The Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State are 3-12-1 on the year with a 2-6 NEC record.  They most recently fell to LIU 1-0 in overtime.

CCSU has been outscored, 23-11 on the year with 9.9 shots per game compared to their opponents' 16.9 shots per game.

Keriann Welch leads the squad with three goals and two assists.  Nikola Deiter has maintained a .791 save percentage of a 1.43 goals against average for the Blue Devils.

Since 2000, the Knights are 2-10 against CCSU.  Last season, FDU earned a 2-0 win over CCSU in Teaneck.

The Blackbirds of LIU currently hold the third-place position in the NEC with a 7-7-3 record and a 5-1-3 mark in conference.  They have played five overtime games since conference play began with overtime wins over The Mount and CCSU.

LIU has been outscored by opponents, 14-17 this season but has been nearly even in shots, averaging 9.5 per game and allowing 9.7. 

Toni Smith leads the team with five goals and one assist, while Jen Bannon holds the backline with a 1.06 goals against average and a .625 save percentage.

The Knights are 3-9 all time against LIU with their last win in 2004.  Last season the Knights fell, 4-1, in Brooklyn.

Prior to the Sunday game against LIU, the Knights' three seniors will be honored for their time at FDU.  Francesca Yaccarine (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), Julie Woolridge (St. John's, Newfoundland/Bishops College) and Maria Palombo (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood High School) will play their final game at University Stadium in the noon kickoff.
