HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will hit the road for a crucial weekend of Northeast Conference competition with a match at Quinnipiac at Burt Kahn Court in Hamden, Conn. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and another match against Central Connecticut State at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, Conn. on Sunday, Oct. 21. The first serve for both matches is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Knights (7-14, 3-5 NEC) are looking to get back on the right track and regain their late September form where they won three of four matches to end the month. Since then, FDU has lost four in a row including defeats at the hands of first place LIU Brooklyn and second place Robert Morris.
Their last time out, a 3-1 loss to Robert Morris on Oct. 14, FDU was paced by 25 kills and 16 digs from senior
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) to go with 20 digs from sophomore
Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford), her fifth 20-dig performance of the season.
The Knights are sixth in the NEC standings, while Quinnipiac (1-16, 0-8 NEC) is ninth out of nine teams, and Central Connecticut State (12-10, 7-2 NEC) is tied with Robert Morris for second.
FDU defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0, on Sept. 22 at Stratis Arena behind 19 kills from Wheeler and a match-high 12 digs from freshman
Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson). The Bobcats have fallen in each of their last 10 matches and have won just three sets during that span.
The Bobcats rank ninth in the NEC in team kills with 429 and have allowed a conference worst .259 hitting percentage by opponents this season. Sophomore Tanner Celestin leads Quinnipiac's offensive efforts with a team-high 108 kills through 17 matches.
CCSU, Sunday's opponent, has won five of its last six matches entering the weekend. After the Knights took the first set of their matchup on Sept. 23, the Blue Devils won the next three for a 3-1 victory. In the match, the Blue Devils had four players with double-digit kills including Emily Cochran, CCSU's leader with 248 kills on the season.
The Blue Devils have been dominant at the net on defense with Jamie Rademacher (82), Rachel Dunlap (79) and Makenna Lommori (76) all recording at least 75 blocks on the season.
Following the weekend, the Knights will host LIU Brooklyn for a 7 p.m. match at Stratis Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
