The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will return to Brooklyn, NY on Monday, Jan. 16 for a 2:00 pm tipoff against LIU Brooklyn.
The Knights most recently defeated the other Brooklyn resident of the Northeast Conference, St. Francis NY, 70-60. Saturday's game increased the Knights' record to 8-9 on the season with a 3-2 mark in conference play.
After trailing at halftime, the Knights created a 30-6 run during the second half to secure the win. Senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led the team with a season-high 28 points, while Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South), Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Stephanie Isaacs (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) each added nine.
The Knights are currently averaging 57.5 points per game, with 40.4 rebounds per game. Laury paces the squad with a scoring average of 16.4. She has also recorded 49 assists with 42 steals so far this season.
The Blackbirds enter Monday's contest with 13 wins and four losses on the season. They defeated Drexel, Tennessee Tech, Charlotte, Albany, Stony Brook and Columbia in non-conference play before defeating Wagner and Quinnipiac in conference. They most recently fell to Monmouth, 57-67 on Saturday.
Ashley Palmer, a Preseason All-NEC Selection, leads the Blackbirds with 19.8 points per game. The 5'10 senior has shot 51.2% from the field this season and also leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game.
LIU averages 64 points per game, with 39.4 rebounds per game. They have allowed 17.1 turnovers per contest.
The Knights hold a 36-23 advantage in the all-time series between the teams, dating back to 1979. The Blackbirds earned the win, 49-68 in last year's meeting at Stratis Arena.
After Monday's matinee, the Knights will host western-Pennsylvania based Robert Morris and Saint Francis PA next weekend.
