W. Volleyball Looks Ahead to Match at La Salle

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will look to extend its winning streak to four matches when the Knights take to the road to play the La Salle Explorers Wednesday, Sept. 7, in Philadelphia, PA.

At the Lafayette Tournament last weekend, the Knights (4-2) finished as the only undefeated team with a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's and 3-1 victories against Rider and Lafayette in Easton, PA.

Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) led all competitors with 72 kills over the course of the three matches. The junior outside hitter also had a tournament-best 6.55 kills per game and a .369 hitting percentage. For her play, Wheeler was namedMolten/NEC Co-Player of the Week.

Entering the match with 1,647 digs, senior captain Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), sits 20 shy of FDU's school record for career digs. Semler was also one of the Knights' top performers at the Lafayette Tournament with 66 digs and an average of 6.0 digs per set.

The Knights' opponent, the La Salle Explorers, enters Wednesday's showdown with a 1-6 record on the season. After opening the season with a 3-0 home win over Saint Peter's, the Explorers have dropped six-straight matches.

Most recently, the Explorers, of the Atlantic 10 Conference, fell at the hands of Villanova, Temple and Penn at the Big 5 Tournament this past weekend.

The last time the two teams matched up was in 2009 when the Knights came away with a 3-2 victory at the La Salle Tournament.

So far this season, the Explorers have a 1-3 record at home at the Tom Gola Arena, while the Knights are 2-0 in away contests.

Later this week, FDU will make the trip to Baltimore, MD, for the Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament. The Knights will play Norfolk State on Friday, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m., before Saturday matches against Youngstown State at 10 a.m. and the host school UMBC at 1 p.m.
