W. Volleyball Looks to Start Another Winning Streak at Manhattan

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will try to get back in the win column with a non-conference tilt in Riverdale, NY against the Manhattan Jaspers on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.

The Knights (9-4) had won three-straight matches leading up to Saturday's 3-0 loss to Sacred Heart in their NEC opener. Despite a team-high 11 kills from Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep), FDU recorded a .092 hitting percentage in the match, which was well below its season average of .174.

Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) dished out all 25 of the team's assists in the contest. The defense was headlined by Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North)'s five block assists and Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic)'s 13 digs for the Knights, who suffered their fourth three-set loss of the season.

FDU will square off with a Manhattan team (8-5) that enters Wednesday winners of its last four matches. Last time out, the Jaspers picked up a 3-1 home win on Sunday, Sept. 25, versus Rider, a team FDU has beaten twice this season.

Last week, the Jaspers also had wins over Providence and Rhode Island as senior LaKell Havens was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while freshman Hollegn Henderson earned MAAC Rookie of the Week.

Manhattan's offense boasts four players who average 2.34 kills per set or better, led by Malia McGuinness' 3.43 per set.

Last season, the Jaspers beat FDU by a 3-0 margin at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ. In their last five match ups dating back to 2006, the Knights have gone 1-4 against Manhattan, with their last win coming in 2007.

The Knights have saved some of their best play for the road this season and will look to build on their 5-1 record in away games.

After Wednesday, FDU will head west to face NEC Opponent Robert Morris in Moon Township, PA on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. The team will be in action again the following day in Loretto, PA at 1 p.m. to take on Saint Francis PA in another NEC contest.
