W. Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback at Manhattan

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference match at the hands of the Manhattan Jaspers on Wednesday night in Riverdale, NY. The Knights fall to 9-5, while the Jaspers' record improves to 9-5.

In the first set, the Knights saw their early 4-2 lead evaporate with the Jaspers taking a 5-4 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. FDU recorded 10 kills, but it was not enough as Manhattan claimed the first set by a 25-16 margin.

The Jaspers took a 2-0 advantage with another 25-16 win in set two in a frame that saw two ties and two lead changes.

The final set was not kind to the Knights, as Manhattan took nine of the match's last ten points en route to a 25-11 win.

FDU struggled with its attack on the night with 23 kills and 25 errors on 94 attempts for a -.021 hitting percentage.

Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) compiled a team-high 12 of the Knights' 23 kills, as Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) facilitated the offense with 12 assists. Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) tied for a match high with three blocks assists, while Wheeler, Willey and Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) chipped in with two apiece. Also helping the defense was Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) with nine digs in the match.

Malia McGuinness (12 kills) and LaKell Havens (10 kills) paced Manhattan's offense, which had a .299 hitting percentage.

The Knights will face two NEC opponents this weekend beginning with a road contest at Robert Morris on Saturday, Sept. 1. The next day, FDU will take on Saint Francis PA in Loretto, PA. Both matches are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
